Sr. Systems Administrator


Summary: The Sr. Systems Administrator will be responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation and day-to-day administration of our business-critical IT systems. The ideal candidate must have advanced systems administration, storage, networking and security skills supporting a hybrid cloud IT environment. This individual will build and maintain highly-resilient and scalable IT solutions for our fast-growing organization. As the primary administrator and escalation point for our enterprise systems, this person must possess strong technical and communication skills with the ability to anticipate issues, triage and resolve problems quickly, maintain impeccable systems uptime and deliver measurable IT value to the business.

Reporting to the Director of IT, this position is suited to proactive and highly-organized individuals with a wide breadth of IT knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities: 

  • Daily administration and monitoring of SRM on-premises and cloud IT environments. Oversee change, capacity, performance, license, and patch management and ensure 24x7x365 availability of all business-critical IT systems
  • Maintain SRM IT systems and services (Palo Alto, Okta, Aruba, Meraki, 8×8, Polycom, Solstice, Office 365, Active Directory, QAD, VMware, Hyper-V, Symantec, Zoom, Skype, Egnyte, Showpad, Crashplan, Veeam, Axcient, Mimecast)
  • Ensure core IT infrastructure (UPS, servers, storage, network, telephony, printers, wireless) is operating flawlessly
  • Primary contact and first line-of-support for IT infrastructure and systems issues/requests. Ensure all IT incidents and requests are prioritized and resolved in a timely and professional manner
  • Perform troubleshooting and lead problem-solving efforts, often involving external IT vendors and service providers
  • Install and maintain systems firmware, software and patches/utilities on server, storage and networking equipment. Schedule after-hours maintenance and engage IT vendors for support and warranty repairs as appropriate
  • Manage backups and recoveries of business-critical IT systems consistent with published backup, disaster recovery and data retention policies. Investigate and resolve backup errors/exceptions, generate reports for management
  • Collaborate with IT team on key projects and initiatives. Design, build and deploy resilient, scalable and secure technology solutions that align with business requirements and contribute to IT processes and technology roadmap
  • Assist with IT infrastructure deployments and office employee/equipment moves (physical and logical)
  • Plan, communicate and deploy changes to IT infrastructure adhering to standard change control procedures and scheduled maintenance windows. Coordinate IT change and maintenance activities with business stakeholders
  • Create and maintain standard IT policies, procedures and user guides. Educate employees on usage of IT services
  • Interface with IT hardware, software, networking and SaaS vendors for product/technical support as necessary
  • Manage company network (LAN/WAN/VPN/Wi-Fi), monitor Internet and site-to-site connectivity and performance, investigate issues, plan and implement changes to routers, firewalls, switches and wireless infrastructure
  • Maintain and enforce security across all IT systems and applications from core to edge. Develop security best practices and implement controls to ensure business compliance with industry and federal laws/regulations/guidelines
  • Maintain IT infrastructure and network diagrams, asset/equipment inventory and IT change/incident logs
  • Manage endpoint protection and e-mail security and troubleshoot and resolve issues or security incidents
  • Manage company A/V conference room equipment and support company and executive meetings
  • Support IT audits and conduct IT systems/network vulnerability scanning, patching and hardening
  • Deployment and maintenance of monitoring, analysis and reporting tools
  • This role will also lead key projects and collaborate with other team members to deliver best-in-class IT solutions.
  • Backfill other IT personnel as needed during PTO sick or vacation periods

Education / Certification / Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS/CIS, Computer Science or relevant work experience
  • Industry certifications such as ITIL, CCNA, MCITP, MCSA, MCSE, VCP, Cloud+, Security+, GSEC are preferred
  • Proficiency with Windows 10/2012/2016, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Office 365, Azure, Active Directory, FSMO, Exchange, SQL Server, Group Policy, DAS/NAS/SAN, VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Crashplan, Veeam, Axcient, Zoom
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols and OSI model (Firewall, Routing, Switching, VLANs, VPNs, IPSEC, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP v4/v6, DNS, DHCP, FTP, RDP, LDAP, PKI, RADIUS, VoIP/SIP, SSL, TLS, SSH, SMTP, SAML, WS-Fed)
  • Experience with ERP and CRM systems such as QAD, SAP, NetSuite, Salesforce, Dynamics
  • Proficiency with one or more scripting languages: UNIX Shell, PowerShell, VB, JavaScript, SQL, Perl
  • Minimum 2 years hands-on IT experience in a startup or SMB environment
  • 5-8 years of server, storage and network deployment, configuration and troubleshooting
  • 5-8 years of Windows Server administration, including Active Directory/GPOs/OUs/groups/ACLs/NTFS permissions
  • 5-8 years of network management and troubleshooting including LAN/WAN/VPN/Wi-Fi, ISP circuits, IPv4/IPv6
  • 5-8 years of architecting, deploying and maintaining production IT systems and datacenters (on-prem and cloud)
  • 5-8 years of virtualization: vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, Hyper-V. Able to diagnose and resolve VM guest/host issues
  • Excellent knowledge of security access controls, policies, groups, rights, permissions
  • Security awareness, incident investigation and remediation
  • Familiarity with IT GRC (BCDR, SOX/ISO, ITSM/ITIL, SOX, ISO, HIPAA, GMP, FDA 21 Part 11, GDPR)

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to run cables under desks
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand at desk for long periods of time
