Sr. IT Engineer


Summary: Silk Road Medical, based in Sunnyvale, CA, is seeking an experienced Sr. IT Engineer who will be responsible for performing a broad set of IT tasks for our growing business. The ideal candidate must have strong desktop support, systems administration and networking skills.  This individual must also be driven to develop resilient, high-performance, scalable IT solutions for our fast-growing startup supporting 100+ users.  As the primary contact and first line of support for employees, this person must also possess excellent organizational and communication skills to be able to interface effectively with users at all levels within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Primary contact and first line-of-support for desktop & application break/fix issues. Ensure all IT issues are prioritized and resolved in a timely and professional manner
  • Provision, deploy and track IT assets (computers, tablets, phones, printers) per standard company build/image specifications. Coordinate warranty repairs and oversee equipment shipping/logistics to field employees
  • Administration of IT systems and services (Palo Alto, Aruba, Meraki, 8×8, Polycom, Office 365, Active Directory, IQMS, VMware, Hyper-V, Proofpoint, Symantec, Zoom, Skype, Egnyte, Showpad, Crashplan, Veeam, Axcient)
  • Perform maintenance and monitoring of IT assets (updating/patch management/licensing/monitoring)
  • Collaborate with IT Manager on various IT projects and initiatives, design and architect technology solutions
  • Assist with IT infrastructure deployments and employee/equipment office moves (physical and logical)
  • Oversee daily backups of business-critical IT servers and storage, investigate exceptions, generate reports
  • Plan, communicate and deploy changes to IT infrastructure adhering to standard change control procedures and scheduled outage windows. Coordinate IT system maintenance activities with internal stakeholder groups
  • Ensure core IT infrastructure (UPS, servers, storage, network, telephony, printers, Wi-Fi) is operating flawlessly
  • Create and maintain standard IT documentation, policies and user guides. Educate employees on usage of IT services
  • Complete new hire and termination activities as defined in standard IT onboarding/offboarding procedures
  • Assist employees with technical issues, research and provide technology solutions as required by the business
  • Perform conference room and A/V equipment setup and operation, including A/V in executive offices
  • Spec and build new technology solutions to provide resilient, scalable, high-performance IT services to the business
  • Interface with IT hardware, software and SaaS vendors for product/technical support as required
  • Administer network (LAN/WAN/VPN/Wi-Fi), monitor Internet and site-to-site connectivity and performance, investigate issues, plan and implement changes to routers, firewalls, switches and wireless infrastructure
  • Monitor IT system security across the business from core to edge across all company systems. Develop and evangelize strong security best practices for the business and implement controls to ensure compliance with industry and federal laws/regulations/guidelines such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GMP, etc.

Education / Certification / Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS/CIS, Computer Science or relevant work experience
  • Current IT industry certifications such as CCNA, ITIL, MCITP, MCSA, MCSE, VCP, Cloud+, Security+
  • Proficient with Windows 10/8/7/2012/2016, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Office 365 (E3), Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, Group Policy, 8×8, Polycom, VoIP/SIP, TCP/IP, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, FTP, RDP, SSH, Firewall, Routing, Switching, VLANs, DAS/NAS/SAN, Wi-Fi, VPN (IPsec and SSL), VMware vSphere/ESXi, MS Hyper-V, Salesforce, Crashplan, Veeam, Axcient, Zoom, ERP systems
  • Experience with one or more: UNIX Shell, PowerShell, JavaScript, SQL, Perl
  • 7+ years hands-on IT Support in startup or SMB companies
  • Proven skills in Windows hardware, OS troubleshooting and deployment. Mac experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of networking and security concepts
  • 7+ years of Windows server/desktop administration, including Active Directory/Group Policy
  • 7+ years of core infrastructure technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, PKI, RADIUS, SSL/TLS, SSH, SMTP)
  • 5+ years of architecting, deploying and maintaining production IT systems and datacenters
  • 5+ years of network management and troubleshooting including LAN/WAN/VPN/WIFI, ISP circuits, IPv4/IPv6
  • 5+ years of virtualization technologies: vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, Hyper-V, Xen, etc.
  • 5+ years of managing cloud-based and hybrid data-centers
  • Security awareness, incident investigation and remediation
  • IT systems/network scanning, patching and hardening
  • Familiarity with IT GRC (BC/DR, SOX/ISO, ITSM/ITIL, SOX, ISO, HIPAA, GMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11)
